GL 100: Capacity allows up to 2 workpieces weighing up to 50 kg each

At Precitor, one of our manufacturing plants with over 2,000 m² of useable space and temperature control, we machine high precision cylindrical parts. This time, we are machining a piece from a raw forging weighing 25 kg. To do that we are using a lathe from the TD-30-YS series fitted with a model GL-100 Gantry Loader to help us automate the production process.

The GL 100 means we can manage up to two 50 Kg workpieces at the same time with ease. Gantry robot solutions are highly intuitive, because they are fitted with a user-friendly conversational programming system, which makes automating short and long batch runs quite simple.

The process for machining this forging using the GL-100 is as follows:

• First, the parts are loaded to the workstocker using a crane. Although the part is heavy, the open top on the workstocker provides easy access.
• Then, the forging is then clamped with the GL-100 Gantry Loader grippers. The GL-100 grippers have excellent clamping strength and are provided with standard claws that can take hard inserts to clamp round the component to anchor it firmly and prevent it from falling during handling.
• Finally, when the machining of the workpiece has finished, the hatch opens, and the GL-100 Gantry Loader descends. There it unloads the finished part using soft grippers to avoid damaging the part.

The Gantry Loader automation solutions cover a wide variety of parts, from axles to flanges weighing from just a few grams up to 50 kg. The GL-100 is a very robust Gantry Loader that can simultaneously manage two workpieces weighing up to 50 kg each. This is an optimum solution if you are looking to automate short, medium, or long batch runs.
