Oscillation cutting - Servo Oscillation Cutting
Oscillation cutting - Servo Oscillation Cutting
Oscillation cutting is a machining function which uses the sinusoidal oscillation of a servo axis to enable chip breakage.
One of the most critical aspects in many machining processes is chip formation. Long and entangled chips are formed mainly in turning operations due to constant cutting conditions. This issue requires changes in the process; such as modifying machining parameters or changing tools to get into a safer but less productive situation, decreasing the performance of the process.
Therefore, the impact of poor chip breaking management affects workpiece integrity, productivity, tool life or even operator safety leading to production stops.
Oscillation cutting (Servo Oscillation Cutting) is a machining function which uses the sinusoidal oscillation of a servo axis to enable chip breakage. While oscillating the specified axis along the cutting direction, the cutting strategy is carried out synchronizing the movement with the rotation of the spindle.
CMZ can implement this function on demand in new CNC lathes as specific hardware and software are required, as well as fine tuning to the specific machine. This document explains the benefits of the function and how to use it.

Polygon Turning
Polygon turning is a process through which flat planes are obtained on the piece through synchronized rotation of the spindle and the live tool. Polygon turning can be performed on our CMZ CNC lathes. It is an alternative process to milling each surface individually. It is more similar to lathing…

Angular Milling
We can often find features in our drawings where an angular machining operation is required. With standard toolholders these features are not achievable because only operations in X and Z directions are possible with standard live toolholders. However, there are some adjustable angle heads in the…

Lathe operations | TTS Series
The TTS and TTL Series make up the multi-turret family of machines for bar work. This is the smallest lathe in the whole product range. Its precision and reliability guarantee the quality of this machine, used in industries such as the oil and gas, medical and general machining industries, with particular…

Driven tool capability
Integrated motors on both turrets offer a combination of two 12-station turrets (24 live positions) and 14kW/42Nm driven tool power with spindle speeds of up to 12,000 rpm, a massive advantage for achieving quicker cycle times. Together with a generous Y-axis travel of +/-45mm available on both turrets,…
